Australia has achieved its greatest success in its 10 year World Floorball Championship history by defeating Hungary in the B-Division final and in doing so, clinching the very valuable 8th automatic qualification for WFC2011 in Switzerland.

Australia will play Hungary for the Gold Medal in the B Division of the 2009 World Floorball Championships tonight after their tight victory over Germany last night. The winner of this match will also secure automatic qualification to the 2011 WFC.

TERRIFIC FIGHT BY AUSTRALIA TO BOOK A PLACE IN THE FINAL

Australia celebrated its first semi final match in the World Floorball Championships by fighting off a confident German side and winning a place in the gold medal match on Friday night. And what a match, with 52 minutes between the first and second goals! Germany and Australia were well matched in size and strength and have had some titanic struggles in the past, but it was Australia that would this time reign supreme with a superb display of teamwork and dogged determination. Not to downplay the floorball effort though, as the defence worked wonderfully again and the opening moves, passing and forward efforts were also first class.

Australia recorded its first clean sheet since 2001 and an opening goal in 18 seconds from Joanne Allan – also her first in internationals and first of 3 in the match – sealed Italys fate to stay at the bottom of Group C at the womens World Floorball Championships in Vasteras, Sweden.
