Floorball is
the new sport on the block. It is a cross between indoor hockey and ice
hockey, played on an oversized basketball court with half metre high
side boards.
Floorball
is a fast, skillful game which can be played by children, women, mixed
teams and men, socially or at a frenetic pace during competition play.
Teams:
- Each team will consist of
either, six field players who must have a stick in hand, or five field
players and a goalkeeper who shall not have a stick and must remain in
the goal area at all times.
- Players must have matching
uniforms.
- All players must be
registered.
Start:
- Each half will begin with
a face-off at the centre mark.
- Players must stand in
their own half.
- When a goal is scored, the
game will recommence with a face off at the centre when the referee
blows the whistle.
General Rules:
- You cannot strike or hack
an opponents stick when they are in control of the ball.
- You cannot lift or press
an opponents stick when they have the ball.
- Pushing an opponent is not
allowed.
- You must not place your
stick between an opponents legs.
- The blade of the stick
must remain below knee height while playing the ball.
- High balls are allowed.
- The ball may not be played
with the hands or head, ( except goal keeper ) but feet, legs and chest
are allowed ( one touch only i.e. foot, stick, foot ).
- You cannot jump for a
ball.
- You cannot play the ball
when on the ground. This includes if both knees or either hand is
touching the ground ( one knee is allowed, goal keepers exempt ).
- You may not pass the ball,
or score, using the foot.
- You cannot back into an
opposing player.
- Teams may have unlimited
substitutions.
- A face off will occur if
the referee is undecided on an incident.
- If the ball hits the
referee then a face-off will take place.
- Play-on may be called by
the referee after an offence has been committed but the attacking team
still has control of the ball.
Scoring:
- Goals can be scored off
the stick of an attacking player ( no body contact ). If the ball
deflects off a defending player then the goal will be awarded.
- Goals will not be awarded
if an attacking player is in the goal area ( sticks allowed ).
Free-Hits and Hit-Ins:
- If the ball is hit out
over the side boards( or above the side line ) the non offending team
will play the ball 1 metre inside the boards where the ball went out.
- Goals cannot be scored
from a hit in.
- Goals can be scored from a
free hit.
- Opposition players must
give 3 metres clearance from any hit-in or free-hit.
- If a free-hit is awarded
in front of the goal, it must be taken back to any point 3 metres from
the goal area.
- Penalty shots will be
awarded at the discretion of the referee.
- The referee may also send
off a player for violent play, complaining to the referee, delaying the
game intentionally or constant free hit offences. A minimum send off
will last 2 minutes.
Penalties:
- The penalty shot will be
taken from the centre mark by an attacker against only the goal keeper.
- During the penalty shot
the ball must not be allowed to move back towards the centre, if it does
then the penalty is over an no score will be given.
- The penalty shot must be
concluded in 15 seconds or no score will be awarded.
- After a penalty shot,
regardless of the result, the game will be restarted with a face off in
the centre.
Court:
- The court will be
surrounded by sideboards 40-50 cms high. A wall may also be used by
marking a line along the wall.
- Goals will be either
Unihoc, Franklin or Ozbandy style and size.
- The goals will be located
at each end of the court to allow play to carry on behind them.
- Court markings will
include a centre mark and goal keeping area.
- The court flooring will be
a hard surface but not slippery i.e. concrete or floorboards.
- The court size shall not
be larger than 20 metres wide by 40 metres long.

are not international standard rules for floorball. They are modified rules
for social, children and competition games.
