Floorball is the new sport on the block. It is a cross between indoor hockey and ice hockey, played on an oversized basketball court with half metre high side boards.

Floorball is a fast, skillful game which can be played by children, women, mixed teams and men, socially or at a frenetic pace during competition play.

Teams:
  • Each team will consist of either, six field players who must have a stick in hand, or five field players and a goalkeeper who shall not have a stick and must remain in the goal area at all times.
  • Players must have matching uniforms.
  • All players must be registered.
Start:
  • Each half will begin with a face-off at the centre mark.
  • Players must stand in their own half.
  • When a goal is scored, the game will recommence with a face off at the centre when the referee blows the whistle.
General Rules:
  • You cannot strike or hack an opponents stick when they are in control of the ball.
  • You cannot lift or press an opponents stick when they have the ball.
  • Pushing an opponent is not allowed.

  • You cannot back into an opposing player.
  • Teams may have unlimited substitutions.
  • A face off will occur if the referee is undecided on an incident.
  • If the ball hits the referee then a face-off will take place.
  • Play-on may be called by the referee after an offence has been committed but the attacking team still has control of the ball.
Scoring:
  • Goals can be scored off the stick of an attacking player ( no body contact ). If the ball deflects off a defending player then the goal will be awarded.
  • Goals will not be awarded if an attacking player is in the goal area ( sticks allowed ).
Free-Hits and Hit-Ins:
  • If the ball is hit out over the side boards( or above the side line ) the non offending team will play the ball 1 metre inside the boards where the ball went out.

  • Goals can be scored from a free hit.
  • Opposition players must give 3 metres clearance from any hit-in or free-hit.
  • If a free-hit is awarded in front of the goal, it must be taken back to any point 3 metres from the goal area.
  • Penalty shots will be awarded at the discretion of the referee.
  • The referee may also send off a player for violent play, complaining to the referee, delaying the game intentionally or constant free hit offences. A minimum send off will last 2 minutes.
Penalties:
  • The penalty shot will be taken from the centre mark by an attacker against only the goal keeper.
  • During the penalty shot the ball must not be allowed to move back towards the centre, if it does then the penalty is over an no score will be given.
